SAFETY MANAGER

DESCRIPTION OVERVIEW

The Project X Safety Manager's core responsibility is to work with stakeholders and contractors alike to identify specific hazards on project sites, such as potential electrocution, toxic substances, heights, or threats to human life, and develop strategies to minimize or eliminate the risks or exposure to such hazards. The Safety Manager will be conducting daily safety inspections and audits to ensure compliance with government regulations, as well as ensuring that Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) laws are strictly obeyed. Safety Managers help construction crews to remain focused on finishing assigned jobs and delivering quality projects to the company’s customers in a safe environment. Project X Safety Manager’s priority is to understand the client’s requirements and ensure all site workers make it home safely at the end of the day.

POSITION DUTIES

  • Preview projects and project sites before work begins to determine safety related risks.

  • Visit active project sites to assess ongoing work conditions to ensure compliance.

  • Work with project management teams and field workers to develop and implement solutions to safety related issues on project sites.

  • Maintaining safety related paperwork including OSHA 300 logs.

  • Maintaining safety training certifications including OSHA OTI.

  • Training company employees on safe work practices.

  • Disciplining employees and subcontractors who fail to comply with minimum safety standards.

QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • 3+ years' experience in logistics role or related experience or bachelor’s degree in engineering, environmental safety or a similar field is required

  • OSHA 10 and 30 hour certification.

  • OSHA OTI Certification

  • Trade specific safety certifications

  • Leadership training and certifications

  • Business management education is preferred

  • Ability to lead team members

  • Ability to solve problems swiftly

  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office

SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Good communication skills, written and verbal

  • Ability to listen, understand, and adapt

  • Knowledge of OSHA standards and regulations pertaining to the specific trade or activity being managed

  • Excellent recordkeeping and document management

  • Ability to access heights via ladders or scaffolding. A significant amount of construction work takes place at heights above ground level which require the Construction Safety Manager to be able to access the work to evaluate it

  • Knowledge of the specific skilled trade or type of work that their company does. This assists the Construction Safety Manager in being able to design and implement solutions for the company

  • Strong supervisory and technical training skills

  • Ability to enforce strict standards in a constructive manner
